ULLI TEEYAL


Ulli theeyal is a famous recipe from South Tamilnadu. Theeyal means fried curry.  We use small onions /shallots for this curry. shallots can lower the blood sugar levels in people with diabetes by preventing the degradation of insulin and increasing the metabolism of glucose.

This recipe I got it from my school friend Sakthi . Thank u Sakthi for this wonderful Recipe . 

Ingredients:
Shallots - 2 cups 
Tomatoes-1 cup
Dessicated coconut – 1/4 cup
Tamarind pulp – 2 tbsp
Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
Coriander powder – 1/2 tsp
Cumin powder – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Red chillies – 2
Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
Salt – as required
Curry leaves – 2 sprigs
Oil – 3 tbsp


 Method :
Peel and chop the onions lengthwise. 
Chop tomatoes .

Heat a pan dry toast grated coconut, red chilli powder, coriander powder, cumin powder and allow to cool. Dry ground this a keep aside . 



Heat oil in  a pan and add mustard seeds red chillies. When they splutter add finely chopped onion, curry leaves and saute till they are soft and translucent.



Add in the chopped tomatoes cook well. 


Pour the tamarind pulpand add salt. Now add the spices powder, Add half a cup of water and mix. 



Cover with lid and let it cook till done. When the oil starts floating on top remove from heat.. 


This curry goes well with chapathi,naan, and rice also..
